Hi.

Welcome to Do Something for Nothing. I document my journey to find out why people do things for nothing to help others and their community. Hope you have a nice stay!

I spent the afternoon with Jill a volunteer with Miles of Smiles and helped her get some local Tameside residents to their appointments on time. Miles of Smiles is a community transport scheme for residents of Tameside, it was established in 2006 to reduce the number of missed appointments. Transport is provided by volunteers using their own vehicles and the Miles of Smiles wheelchair accessible vehicle. There is a small charge for the service to cover the cost of running the volunteers’ cars.

Over the last 12 months the 25 Miles of Smiles volunteer drivers took 1925 active passengers to over 10,000 appointments. This was a staggering 75,000 miles in total.
